I really can’t complain. I’ve had a nice break. Six weeks when everything is said and done. Still, as the days tick to a close, and work pops up a little this week and next and then back for good the following, I can’t help but cling to every second. Time is such a strange thing, stretching and doubling and speeding along then coming to a halt in the face of anticipation.
I want to make the next two weeks last forever but am also excited for what’s to come… My 30th birthday, 30 new little people, a fall full of weddings and family and friends, the changing leaves and holidays… It’s easy to get ahead of myself, but thinking of all the joyous moments that await helps to ease the separation anxiety from my beloved summer.
Any suggestions for making these final moments of freedom count?
Go swimming while it’s still warm. Get watermelon all over your face while you gnaw a slice down to the rind. Complete one little art piece or home improvement project that you can look at after work has started and remember, “Oh, that’s my summer talisman!”

As for what you should do for the next two weeks … Jennie has some good ideas. Here’s one or two. Search the internet for the tour dates of some of your favorite artists. If any of them are anywhere in Northern California in the next two weeks, pick one and go.
Go sit at on a riverbank or the shore of a lake, take a notepad and write something, anything that comes to mind. See where it takes you.
Is there some place that would make for a day trip that you’ve never been to? Go there. Wallow in whatever is there for a few hours.
Yoga.
You know what you should do for the next two weeks. Wake up every day and say, this is what I’m going to do and then do it. Whatever it is. Can you tell that I wish I had two weeks?
All great ideas! I think that’s why I panic a bit, it’s so easy to squander such wonderfully valuable time. I feel so much happier when I intentionally use the time for things I wish I could do when I’m working… Will definitely accomplish part of this list. Look forward to seeing the pictures from your trip– a break is just around the corner! 🙂
That’s the beauty of these two weeks for you. They are yours to do with as you wish. There’s no way you can squander them as long as you’re doing what it is you want to do with them. It’s entirely reasonable to get to do as you wish for that kind of time.
I don’t know… There is definitely a difference between time I really enjoy and time I let pass. I find I have to be intentional to make the most of breaks instead of falling into traps of doing things like watching lame movies or working… Also drives me crazy when I don’t write and then want to write when the time isn’t there. I know, trivial complaints. 🙂

Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner. Pretty much describes what I’ve been going through for years. When I’m busy, I think of these things I want to write. Once I have time to sit down and do it, I ‘let the distractions take me away. That right there is the crux of the problem.
